Nobody tells you about the bit that comes after.
You finish treatment, you ring the bell, everyone cheers and then you go home and wonder: now what? The world expects you to feel relief, and you do, sort of. But you also feel exhausted, a little lost, and perhaps more than a little disconnected from the body you are living in.
I know that feeling. I have been there. And it is part of why Ellie and I created Elliegance, not just as a beauty brand, but as a small act of care for people navigating exactly this.
This is not a prescription. It is a gentle collection of things that helped me, and that I hope might help you too.
Give Yourself Permission to Not Be Okay Yet
Wellbeing after cancer treatment starts with one thing: giving yourself permission. Permission to grieve the version of yourself you were before. Permission to have bad days, even when treatment is behind you. Permission to take it slowly.
Recovery is not linear. Some days you will feel like yourself again. Others you will not, and that is completely normal. The body has been through something enormous. Healing takes time, and that includes emotional healing too.
Small Acts of Self-Care That Actually Help
Big wellness overhauls are overwhelming when your energy is limited. What helped me most were small, consistent acts, things that said to my body: I am still here, I am still caring for you.
A few that made a real difference:
-
Getting outside, even for 10 minutes. Fresh air and natural light do something for your nervous system that no supplement can replicate.
-
A gentle morning routine. Nothing elaborate, just a few minutes that are yours before the day begins.
-
Looking in the mirror with kindness. This was a hard one for me. But finding one small thing to appreciate, whether that is your eyes, your smile, or the tiny lash hairs starting to grow back, matters.
-
Nourishing your body without pressure. Eat what feels good, rest when you need to. Ignore the diet culture noise, your body knows what it needs right now.
Reconnecting With Your Body After Treatment
One of the things I was not prepared for was how strange it felt to be in my own body again. Treatment changes you, physically and emotionally, and the process of reconnecting with yourself takes time.
For me, movement was everything. I teach both yoga and qigong, and it was my daily qigong practice that truly got me through treatment. Something about those slow, intentional movements, the breath, the stillness underneath it all, kept me anchored when everything else felt uncertain.
You do not need to do qigong or yoga. Walking, stretching, gentle swimming, dancing in your kitchen, whatever feels like coming home in your body is exactly the right thing.
A 1-Minute Meditation, From Me to You
I wanted to give you something practical, something you can come back to on the harder days.
Below is a short video of me guiding a one minute meditation. It is nothing complicated, just a moment to breathe, to land, to remind yourself that you are here and you are doing brilliantly.
You can do this anywhere. At the kitchen table before the day starts. In the car before you go in somewhere. In bed when sleep feels far away.
I hope that helps, even a little. Save it, come back to it whenever you need it. It is here for you.
Your Hair and Lashes Will Come Back and Here Is How to Support Them
When my lashes and brows started to go, it hit me in a way I had not expected. They are such a small thing, really, but they are part of how you recognise yourself in the mirror. Losing them quietly chips away at something.
The good news: your follicles are still there. Hair loss from chemotherapy is almost always temporary, and with the right care you can support healthy regrowth.
That is why Ellie and I created EnHance Lash & Brow Serum. I used it myself during my own regrowth and the results genuinely moved me. It is formulated with a Multi-Peptide Complex, Keratin, Hyaluronic Acid and Panthenol, and importantly it is completely prostaglandin free, making it safe for use after treatment. No harsh actives, just gentle, evidence backed nourishment.
If you are at that stage of recovery and wondering where to start, we are here. And we understand, because we have been there too.
You Are Doing Better Than You Think
Recovery after cancer treatment is one of the bravest, most quietly difficult things a person can do. There is no roadmap, no finish line, and very few people who truly understand unless they have been through it.
But you are here, reading this, looking after yourself, and that counts for a lot.
We built Elliegance for people like you and me. If you ever want to reach out, whether it is a question about the serum or just a moment where you want to feel less alone in this, we are always at hello@elliegance.uk.
With so much love,
